Saturday October 5th is the Scott Kelby Sixth Annual World Wide Photowalk. It’s a free social event for photographers, with both a local and an international prize for the best photos taken by registered participants during the event. There is also a supplementary fund raising opportunity for the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya — Scott’s chosen charity. Our walk will be in Hertford this year.

Hertford is one of the smallest county towns in England, with some interesting architecture (Castle, Brewery) a market, and a small river.Folley Island

Our walk should take in all these yet start sufficiently early (8:45) to get some softer light, and consequently will also finish relatively early.

We’ll start in the Castle gardens. There is a shelter near the path in from St Andrew’s Street Car park where we can gather, and take the obligatory group photo (give yourself 4 hours in the car park so that you’ll have time to socialise after the walk).

We’ll come out beside the Theatre and turn left to the lights to see some of the buildings near the Brewery and the Library, then come back into the centre, and across to Folley Island, and follow the river past the narrow boats and back across Mill Bridge.

Past the amazing Victorian architecture of the East Station, through Bluecoats and by other streets through the centre & market to the square with the Hert, and finish along St Andrew’s St.

This is an extremely short photowalk, and there are other potential points of interest for the more energetic, from the Council Buildings, the magnificent churches, to the now-converted art-deco Wisdom factory
