Hi Fellow Photographer

Welcome to this week’s Newsletter

Workshop!

We have a workshop evening on 17th January when we will have 3 separate workshops being run:

  1. Bill will be running a lighting exercise using the club’s lights
  2. Frank will be running a High Key – Headshot – Portrait session.

This image, of Chrissie our model for Tuesday, was taken Saturday and illustrates the type of High Key results we want.Camera settings will be;Manual, ISO200, 1/100s,  f4 – f5.6, White Balance 5200k

This is the Histogram of the image and has some black area showing on the right.

    Snap Competition
Send an image, taken on Tuesday,  to Chrissie and she will choose the one she likes the best.

The winner will receive a triangular 5 way foldaway reflector/diffuser (Black/While/Gold/Silver/Diffuser as a prise.
The reflector has a convenient handle in one of the corners.
(Competition is open to anyone taking a picture of Chrissie on Tuesday 17 Jan – Except for Dianne) I have no idea why Di is excluded! – Ed

  3. Andy will be running a workshop on “How to Title Your Image”. This will be a collaborative workshop

Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia

I am the Artistic Director of Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia. Our next concert is coming up on Sunday 22nd January. We would love to have some photos of the orchestra taken during a rehearsal for this concert, as you can get good angles/close ups far more easily during the rehearsal than the concert. Various friends have taken photos at previous concerts but we are really lacking good images at the moment!

The most ideal time for this would be on the day of the concert, Sunday 22nd January, when we are rehearsing between 1.30 and 5.00pm, at the Memorial Hall in Bishop’s Stortford College. However, if this is not possible, another option is our rehearsal on Friday 20th January between 7 and 10pm, again at the college. It certainly needn’t take the length of the rehearsal, a photographer could pop in for a short period during the rehearsal at any time that suited them.

Full details of the concert can be found here: https://bishopsstortfordsinfonia.com/concerts/

I hope this may be of interest to one of your members, and would be delighted to offer complimentary tickets in thanks for the photos, should the photographer wish to come to the concert.

Best wishes

Simon Gilliver

RPS Photo Workshop in Wymondham

The RPS East Anglia Region will be running an informal Photo Workshop in Wymondham on Sunday 12th February.  This is an ideal opportunity for people to bring their images for discussion and comment, particularly those who are thinking of embarking on an RPS distinction in the near future.  This flyer gives information about the event

Frank’s Interesting Links

The link for this week is Serge Ramelli who seems to specialise in low light and HDR.
If you subscribe he will send you something virtually every day (thats OK if you don’t get a lot of emails)
I checked out one or two free tutorials and found them useful.
