August Photo of the Month

Carol Greens ‘Painted Lady’ is our photo of the month for August, and well deserved it is too. Here’s a few words from Carol…

At the beginning of lockdown I ordered a butterfly kit off the internet, the type that schools use.  Five very small caterpillars arrived in a pot containing all the food they need etc…. Once they have turned into chrysalides you put then into a netted cage and they emerge a week or so later.
You have to take your images first thing in the morning when it is cooler otherwise they get a bit flighty and do not stay still.  After two days they are ready to release outside.

Photo of the Month

The honours for this month’s Photo of the Month go to Hellie Melhuish.

Hellie’s image was posted in our weekly Facebook challenge and then featured in the local paper (Indie) as the cover image for the Sunrise/Sunset weekly challenge. Congratulations Hellie for such a great image.

Photo of the Month is chosen by Matthew Bickham LRPS.

Inter Club Battle

Last Tuesdays meeting saw our Inter-club battle with Brentwood, Ware, Great Notley and Hertford camera clubs held over Zoom. This was judged and critiqued by Colin Strong ARPS CPAGB, but as a twist to the normal format the 90+ viewers were also able to score each image via poll. This was purely for fun and had no outcome on the overall results although certainly threw up a few surprise scores.

This was by far our most popular online event to date. Thank you to everyone who helped put this together

Results

With each club entering 12 images it was still very close with just 14 points between all the clubs, but in the end with the home advantage it was BSCC that came out on top… well done us.

Photo of the Month

Metal Cityscape by Rick Stevens

Aprils photo of the month as selected by Matthew Bickham LRPS is this shot by Rick Stevens from the Real life, Still Life Facebook challenge.

Not only is this a great image, he also gave a excellent talk on his inspiration and how he achieved the shot at a recent club (online) meeting

Congratulations Rick.

We are back!

We are really proud to announce that we are back and going online via Zoom. Each week at our usual time we are going to host a range of topics to help you improve your photography. Members of the club will be providing some sessions on:

– learning new photography techniques
– host some judging events
– review some of the work of famous photographers
– present some guest speakers

Make sure you are signed up to the newsletter for further details and links to the Zoom meetings.

Photo of the Month

Delighted to announce that Liz Happer’s photo has been selected as our photo of the month. Her image was taken in the mountains above Hanoi in Vietnam in a place called Sapa. Liz mentioned that “it was a ‘grab shot’ in the market because many of the tribal woman do not like their photos being taken – but children the world over never seem to mind”. Well done Liz. Your photo should be in the window of Photosound but obviously subject to the closure of the shop.

CLOSED for this season

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak and the governments recommendation to ‘avoid clubs’, the Bishops Stortford Camera Club is now closed for this season.
