Second week back – Workshop

Good evening everyone,

This week is our first workshop of the new season.

There are a few things happening so there should be something for everyone.

Firstly, Bill will be running a still life setup with studio lights. Karen has kindly agreed to do a flower display for you to photograph.

Secondly, for those who want to enter the print competition this year, Andrew is going to give a workshop on mount cutting. The club is also getting a bulk lot of mounts if anyone is interested.

Third and fourth. Mark and I will doing a introduction into Masking and Layers, these will be small groups, but don’t worry we will run the same workshops next time until everyone who wants to take part has done.

And finally, there will be help available for anyone who needs help with their camera and its settings. This will be on an ‘ask for help’ basis as there are not many people interested so far, but we are available for those that do.

Just a quick reminder — to be considered for the club’s Picture Of The Month for printing and display in Photosound’s window you should add your photo to the “Bishops Stortford Camera Club” group on Flickr or Facebook during the previous month. Twitter, Google+ or your own blog don’t count. You should claim the print as your own after the next one goes up.

Thanks, see you Tuesday.

Andy Bishop

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that former member and friend of the club, Andy Bishop, passed away on Sunday night. Unfortunately I do not have any more details or information to share.

And with your Christmas Cash

If you decide to buy a 3LT evo tripod (use the link advert on the right so the club benefits) they’re giving away two useful additional bits of kit to go with it.

Spikes and a stone bag. The spikes screw in to replace the rubber feet for use outdoors, and the stone bag hangs between the legs and is used for stones or other weights to anchor everything when it’s a bit windy.

Into October

Hello everyone,

I hope you have had a nice week and have taken advantage of what must certainly be the last of the good weather for a while. The nights are most definitely drawing in, so lots of opportunities to work on our photoshop skills.

Anyway I have quite a few extra things to include in the newsletter this week so I had best get on with it. Well what an incredibly busy -photographically speaking- week lies ahead:

Monday evening some members are helping HECC Sport take publicity shots, as a thank-you for their giving us space for one of our shoots over the Summer. If you are interested in helping out please contact Andrew before midday.

Tuesday morning 9:00 is a theatre group visit to Contexture Theatre Company’s ‘s dress-rehersal of “Journey’s End” at the Rhodes. We will be shooting, processing, and printing for the show publicity shots before we leave. We will have a Dye-Sublimation printer on site, but if you have your laptop to process your own shots that will help.

Tuesday evening we’re looking forward to a talk from one of our favourite judges: David Steel will be talking about his trip down Route 66, expect great travel shots of Americana

Jackson Square have commented what a great success the exhibition opposite Starbucks has been with strong positive feedback from the public — even the security guards commented how well it was received. If your picture was a part of the Jackson Square Exhibition, please come to pick up the print on Tuesday evening, or arrange to collect it/them from Andrew. The prints are on a plastic board, and still have Velcro style “Hook” tape along 2 edges: for re-hanging you may want this
20mm x 25m’s Adhesive White Loop Tape Only (Velcro equivalent)

Saturday Evening is the Worldwide Photowalk in Colchester, if you would like to take part in this global event, please make sure you pre- R E G I S T E R. With regards to this event if you are going to this and are able to offer a lift to Stephanie please let me know ASAP, she would be extremely grateful.

I really hope everyone enjoyed the workshop on Tuesday. If you took some shots and would like them forwarded to our models Gabriella Morgan and Alistair Gunn please use the following Dropbox link

Finally a note regarding the Rugby festival I mentioned on Tuesday. This event is in 3 weeks time and I feel that this is a little too shorter notice for us to pull this off and do it justice. I have therefore let the organisers know that we would be unable to help this particular time. Although there will be further opportunities in the future. If this is something you would like to help out with, please let me know.

Kind Regards

Emma x

Bank Holiday Week

Hi all

I’m on holiday this week, so Mark is going to lead the evening tomorrow. The plan is a walk around Hatfield Forest, meeting at the first car park at 7:30pm. If it’s raining then we will meet in the Green Man pub in Takeley and then if it dries up we can still get out to the forest. Have fun!

August weekly update

Hi all

There is a change to this week in the programme. We are now going to do a World War 1 themed photo shoot in conjunction with Contexture, a theatre company based in Bishop’s Stortford. There is the chance that your photograph could be used as the poster for Contexture’s play about boys going to war, coming up in the autumn. We have two teenage boys as models and Contexture are bringing authentic uniforms for them. They would like something similar to the sunset portraits we took recently, so I’m thinking we will head to the same location. This was near the cricket fields in Bishop’s Stortford, Address is Cricketfield Lane, Bishops Stortford. We will meet at 7:30pm and will head towards the hill at Dane O’Coys Road. Remember your insect repellant!

Andrew has also asked me to let you know about a fantastic opportunity to photograph some amazing moths:-

Moth night
Scheduled: 16 Aug 2014, 20:30 to 22:00
Location: Millfield Lane, Little Hadham, A120 between Little Hadham & Tesco
A moth trap extravaganza by Kono Forgham.
This event will be cancelled if it’s raining.

See you Tuesday,

Brian

Weekly Update

Hi all

This week we are going to go to the Three Houseshoes in Spellbrook for a bite to eat (or just a drink) and a catch up. This is going to take the place of the meal in a few weeks as we may have something very cool we can do on that week. If anyone knows or has any teenagers that would like to dress up in World War 1 gear and potentially have their picture on a poster around B/Stortford, let Emma know.

The winner of Photo of the Month this month is Karen with her fantastic picture taken at Hopleys.

Soldiers and Fire

Hi all

This week is ‘soldiers and fire’. After much hunting I think we have found a location that is safe and where we are allowed replica guns at HECCSport, Sawbridgeworth, CM21 0LL.

Due to the hot weather I’m not going to do any ‘fire,’ now, but Steve is going to dress up in full Army gear and hopefully give us some great moody shots with an authentic setting as well. The location is Tharbies Farm, Rook End, High Wych.

Additionally tonight, Frank has asked for the following to be shared:-

“Yep, I’ve done it, I’ve got an 810.
This means that I have a D800E for sale for £1,300.00 inc. VAT.
The camera has 4,800 actuations, boxed as new – nothing missing.”

The Triumph of Hope

Hi all,

What a fantastic evening we had last week doing outside portraiture at the cricket fields; I’ve never seen so many fantastic pictures from one evening on Facebook and Flickr. The sunset was fabulous for such an evening.

Let’s hope this week is as good. We are meeting in Baroosh at 7:30 and going to walk around Stortford and try some street photography. It’s worth noting that every year we have tried this before it’s been torrential rain, so fingers crossed we will be fine.
