Early Update

Hi everyone,

This week I’m sending out the info about Tuesday a bit early as I’m in Norfolk this weekend and well, as for phone signal they are in the dark ages!  This Tuesday we are meeting by the cricket club on the cricket fields, Cricketfield Lane, Bishop’s Stortford, CM23 2SR at 7:30pm.  You should be able to park along the road or in the cricket club car park as long as there is not an event on.

The plan for the evening is outside portraiture and indivisible background techniques, so if you have got an off camera flash please bring it with you and if not, maybe a reflector (even card and tinfoil will work).

See you on Tuesday.

Solstice Week

Hi all,

I hope you have all had a great weekend in the sun.  Thank you to everyone that helped Andrew at the Stortford Carnival on Saturday.

This Tuesday is Bill’s summer dinner at Great Bardfield. Unfortunately as this is a pre-booked dinner, booking is now closed.  Also I cannot make the dinner this year as I have an early start on Wednesday.  If anyone is at a loose end tomorrow night, I will be at the Three Horseshoes pub in Spellbrook for a quick bite to eat and a catch up

After the Island

Hi all

What a fantastic weekend some of us members have had at the annual Camera Club weekend away, this year in the Isle of Wight.

Within an hour of arriving, the rain had stopped and did not start again until we left this morning. We were so lucky, allowing us to see a beautiful island at its best. I would like to say a big thank you to Emma for organising the whole weekend; it was great as always.

Tomorrow night we have decided to use one of the free nights to meet at the Three Horse Shoes in Spellbrook at 7:45. We will be picking a winner from the photo challenge set in the Isle of Wight – ‘best false perspective photo’ and have a general catch up over a drink. Bring your pictures from Isle of Wight if you have one!

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Sunday’s Update

Hi all

Hope you’ve all been enjoying a beautiful sunny weekend and taken the opportunity to get out with your cameras.

This Tuesday evening is going to be at Hatfield Forest. We will meet at the first car park by the pay booth at 7:30pm. We will then go to the first clump of trees on the right as you walk through the gate. You will need to have a tripod and please bring any torches and any coloured light you have eg. torches with coloured sweet wrappers, glow stick or even light sabres. The idea is to practise this week and then next week do a full on scene with all of us painting something different to make up one big picture.

I have found a website with some fantastic samples

See you then.

Summer Season in Swing

Hi all

This Tuesday we are taking long exposure pictures with sparks and fire in Takeley, under the bridge in Gt Canfield Road (map attached) meeting at 7:30. This has always been a favourite of the summer programme so don’t miss out. There is limited parking there so please car share where possible. You will definitely need a tripod and as some of us found out last week, bug repellant may be a good idea.

We have been a bit lapse with the photo of the month this month. The winner this month however is Matthew Bickham’s ‘Pond life‘ from last week.

Well done Matthew, this will be in Photosound’s windows until the end of June.

Lastly, I’ve had a sort out and have a selection of about 40 recent photography magazines going free if anyone wants them. Let me know.

See you on Tuesday

Nearly there for this Season

Hi everyone,

So the season is drawing to a close and we have only couple of club nights left before we move over to the summer program. I for one have enjoyed the season immensely with plenty more still to look forward to; the club dinner, the AGM and most importantly the chairmans evening this week at club…

Please do all try and come along. 7.45 for and 8.00 start as always. BRING YOUR CAMERAS with you as it’s a practical evening. We have a guest speaker and then we will be able to take pictures of him and the various objects that he’s bringing with him…. Intrigued, well then Please do come along.

Brian has asked me to let you a know that the first night of the summer program was meant to be a trip to photograph the bluebells, unfortunately they are already out and if we wait till then we will miss them. Therefore he has brought this forward to this coming Thursday, if you would like to attend this event please get the details from Brian,

Happy Easter everyone.

Sunday Update 14-03-09

Hi All,

Hope you are all well and enjoyed the glorious day we have had today, felt Iike the sun would never arrive but it did indeed today. :@)

So not too much to tell you this week, the most important thing is this week at club. It’s the exhibition hand in night. For those of you who are still in the dark about this; In a nutshell, the exhibition is the end of year competition. You can enter the images you have submitted this season or use it as a teaser of next years Images. please use the club website to check out the rules/ask questions on the Facebook page or please give myself a ring. There are plenty of lovely shiny trophies up for grabs.

Next up this Saturday is the fundraising quiz night. If you could bring payment on Tuesday it would help me a lot as I can a) pay for the hire of hall, bar staff, food etc b) I won’t have to have too much cash on me on Saturday night. We need raffle prizes for the evening too, so if you have a prize -even if you are not coming on Saturday- please bring it on the night or hand it to me Tuesday.

I have chased up the sweatshirts order which shoud have arrived this week and they have assured me they will be posted out to me this week.

Even though the season is flying past there are still plenty of good evenings coming up in the programme. And still competitions to enter.

Hope to see lots of you there on Tuesday handing in your exhibition entries.

Sunday Greetings

Evening everyone,

Hope you have had a good week, how’s the light trails homework coming? Don’t forget to post any pictures either on the BSCC Flickr page or the Facebook page. Both sites are great for getting/sharing tips between club nights so please feel free to make use of them both. Anyhoo, quick one tonight, not much to report;

One quick request; if you took part in the studio club this time, please upload your images to Dropbox so we can distribute them to our sitters.

Onto this Tuesday, should be a great evening with Eric Renno aka Tip Squirrel paying us a visit; visitors who may be interested in Photoshop are more than welcome, all we ask is £2 per person.

See you there

Emma again

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well. Been a busy weekend of photography for me and for those who came along to Studio Club. We had a great day, complete with suits of armour and a desperate housewives styled shoot! We look forward to sharing some images with you soon. Make sure you note your interest if you would like to come along to the next one.

First up a request from Sandy;

The program for next year is coming together now and it would be really helpful if you could let me know what you want to see in there. I am trying to cover all interests but unless you tell me what you would like to see included I won’t know and it will be missed. So it is up to you. Give me your wish lists, especially items we should cover in the workshops, and I will add as much as possible.

Another reminder of that date for your diaries: Saturday 15th March will be the annual BSCC fundraising quiz night. Its always a fun evening and raises much needed funds for the club. Its only £8.50 per ticket and includes a ploughman’s supper. At this stage I need to know how many people you have in your team.

Next up: we have been contacted by St Clare Hospice, who are putting together a 2015 calendar for their 25th anniversary next year. They are looking for 13 striking seasonal images to feature in the calendar on the theme ‘Hidden Treasures’.

What they would like is beautiful images of local landmarks/artwork/landscapes/places of interest within the catchment area served by the Hospice. Their patients come from across Harlow, Sawbridgeworth, Bishop’s Stortford, Saffron Walden, Stansted, Dunmow, Newport, Epping, Loughton, Ongar, Buckhurst Hill and all the little villages & hamlets.

They have put this out to all local photography clubs, so it would be great if stortford could be represented. They need pictures to cover all four seasons. Members can submit contributions directly by email (eleanor.scotchbrook (at) stclarehospice.org.uk) please include your own contact details. Due to production deadlines, submissions must be sent by Friday, February 21 so people must be quick!

Finally, I’m pleased to announce this weeks photo of the month; Mark Seton, Dovercourt Lighthouse. To be in with a chance simply upload your images each month to the BSCC Flickr page.

Please bring along monies on Tuesday if you owe me for anything (quiz tickets/fleeces/weekend away) Sam is giving us a talk with slides, entitled ‘Iceland adventure’. See you all there.

Emma xx
