Into October

Hello everyone,

I hope you have had a nice week and have taken advantage of what must certainly be the last of the good weather for a while. The nights are most definitely drawing in, so lots of opportunities to work on our photoshop skills.

Anyway I have quite a few extra things to include in the newsletter this week so I had best get on with it. Well what an incredibly busy -photographically speaking- week lies ahead:

Monday evening some members are helping HECC Sport take publicity shots, as a thank-you for their giving us space for one of our shoots over the Summer. If you are interested in helping out please contact Andrew before midday.

Tuesday morning 9:00 is a theatre group visit to Contexture Theatre Company’s ‘s dress-rehersal of “Journey’s End” at the Rhodes. We will be shooting, processing, and printing for the show publicity shots before we leave. We will have a Dye-Sublimation printer on site, but if you have your laptop to process your own shots that will help.

Tuesday evening we’re looking forward to a talk from one of our favourite judges: David Steel will be talking about his trip down Route 66, expect great travel shots of Americana

Jackson Square have commented what a great success the exhibition opposite Starbucks has been with strong positive feedback from the public — even the security guards commented how well it was received. If your picture was a part of the Jackson Square Exhibition, please come to pick up the print on Tuesday evening, or arrange to collect it/them from Andrew. The prints are on a plastic board, and still have Velcro style “Hook” tape along 2 edges: for re-hanging you may want this
20mm x 25m’s Adhesive White Loop Tape Only (Velcro equivalent)

Saturday Evening is the Worldwide Photowalk in Colchester, if you would like to take part in this global event, please make sure you pre- R E G I S T E R. With regards to this event if you are going to this and are able to offer a lift to Stephanie please let me know ASAP, she would be extremely grateful.

I really hope everyone enjoyed the workshop on Tuesday. If you took some shots and would like them forwarded to our models Gabriella Morgan and Alistair Gunn please use the following Dropbox link

Finally a note regarding the Rugby festival I mentioned on Tuesday. This event is in 3 weeks time and I feel that this is a little too shorter notice for us to pull this off and do it justice. I have therefore let the organisers know that we would be unable to help this particular time. Although there will be further opportunities in the future. If this is something you would like to help out with, please let me know.

Kind Regards

Emma x

Photowalk 2014

We are holding our event in this year’s Scott Kelby Photowalk in Colchester. to take part you need to

R E G I S T E R

which will let you enter the competitions as well.

Colchester is a gem of a place which is largely ignored, one of the trading cities of the Hanseatic league, it has been here since Roman times.  We’re just going to take the briefest outsider’s view but will hopefully trigger enough interest for people to want to come back

I’m Back

Hi everyone,

It’s Sunday so I guess it’s weekly update time:

I’m writing this while sat on the tube, heading home after a great day out with the camera club in London. We decided to head into the city, which was surprisingly active for a Sunday, with workmen and fellow photographers out and about.

We headed towards Trafalgar Square and the National Portrait Gallery, where we visited the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize Exhibition. It was really inspiring and refreshing to see such a diverse range of styles and subjects. Based on the content of the exhibition, Brian observed: “If you want to win a prize, don’t let your subject smile!”

Next, we headed to the embankment where we watched the sunset, explored the Christmas markets and had a delicious pizza. I will set up an album on the facebook group for people, so you can view our pictures.

So, onto Tuesday: its the Christmas social, which is always a nice evening. The bar will be open and it’s a ‘bring and share’ buffet. Please bring either sweet or savoury finger food. We normally have some sort of quiz too.

We have a communal club card that you are invited to sign. (instead of sending individual cards) so please make a donation. All monies go into club funds.

I’m pleased to announce that the ‘photo of the month’ goes to Karen Rainbird for her image ‘Freezing Wine‘. She gets the honour of her picture hanging in the window of Photosound for the month. Congrats, its well deserved!

Brian is sat next to me and I asked him of he had anything to add. He said: “Tell them Brian likes sausage rolls!” lol! He also said that if anyone would like to meet on the following Tuesday (17th) he is happy to arrange a meet up for star pictures/light trails etc and a swift festive half in the pub. Just let him know if you are interested.

See you Tuesday!

Hello from the Chair 2013-11-03

Well hello everyone,

Hope you are having a good week and have got your entries in to David ready for Round 2 of the Digitally Projected Image competition. If the quality of images are anything like those in the first round then we are in for a good night, (David tells me there are some even better ones). Malcolm Tinn is the judge and he is really good. You can see his work here. Looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Anyway onto club business:  » Continue reading Hello from the Chair 2013-11-03

Good afternoon everyone,

A day late with my update I’m afraid, but seeing as there’s not much to report this week I hope you don’t mind.

I’ve been told off (again) that I do come up with some great ideas (sometimes) but that I don’t let you all have enough notice of them. So here is a date for your diary, well in advance. I am organising a BSCC day out on Sunday 8th December. We will meet at Stortford station and all head into London together. I will organise a route nearer the time. These days are such a great way to get to know each other, take pictures and pick up photography tips and skills along the way. Please do come.

This week at club we have a talk by Richard Revells, entitled “Mammals and Birds”, if you have any friends/relatives who would like to come and listen, they are more that welcome. We charge a £2 visitors fee.

Finally something to look forward to tomorrow, a message from Andrew; “I won a huge chocolate cake in a Raffle last night, so it will be available at 70p / slice for the projector screen fund, at club”, so don’t have pud before you come 😉

Thats it from me folks, see you all tomorrow.

Hi all. I hope you’ve enjoyed a nice weekend.

Yesterday, I went on a great photowalk in Brighton organised by Glyn Dewis, who is a photographer, retoucher and trainer and will be a speaker at our Club on November 12th. I learnt a lot from the group during the walkabout and although that was cut short by the rain, it struck me how beneficial the social in the bar afterwards was too. I met some very like minded people and picked up some great new contacts as well as a potential new member. It was fascinating how different people interpreted situations differently from a photographic perspective.

So, if you get chance to go on an event, such as the World Wide Photo Walk on the 5th October, or any other social, I would highly recommend it.

This is the last week of the summer programme and we are going to meet at Goose Lane, Wright’s Green (map attached) at 7:45pm on Tuesday to do some light trails over the motorway. You will need a tripod but if you haven’t got one still come along as there are always some spares floating about.

I have included a link for a great tutorial about light trails.

This week I will also give out copies of the new programme that Cathanne has produced, in advance of the new season starting next week . I am happy to start collecting subscriptions too, for anyone wanting to beat the rush on the first night back!

By the way, Sandy has sent a mail saying that Stansted Windmill is open this weekend (including tomorrow before you tell me I’m a bit late), so that may be a great photo opportunity.

So that’s it from me for a while as Emma is back next week.

See you on Tuesday.

Hi all

It’s already Sunday, hope you’ve all had a good week.

Well, everyone is working really hard to get ready for the new season to start. David has done a great job getting the newsletter ready; Jean has got a fantastic programme sorted for the year; Cathanne has done an awesome job with the design of the new printed programme; Andrew has organised a brilliant photo walk (details below) and finally, Emma has gone on holiday to refresh herself for the new season…!

As we are almost to the end of the summer programme, this week we are meeting in The Three Horseshoes pub in Spellbrook for a informal pub dinner at 7:45pm. I have provisionally booked a table and so if you are definitely coming along, please let me know so I can give them a better idea of numbers. This is open to everyone, not just members so all you new guys please feel free to come along too.

Andrew has again this year organised a photo walk in conjunction with Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk. This year it is going to be in Hertford on 5th October. It’s a great thing to get involved in, so if you are interested please click on this link,.

See you on Tuesday.

Weekly hello 2013-07-23

Emma EvansHi everyone,

First up thanks to everyone who came on Saturday. We were unbelievably lucky to have the one off cooler day of the week which made our photo walk around Cambridge very enjoyable. As usual I managed to take us all on an interesting journey, including an open top bus ride at 50mph around the Cambridgeshire countryside… Bob got hit in the eye by a low lying branch which managed to break his glasses! All in a standard day out for BSCC.

Anyway, best stop now or I will put you all off coming along on the next one. Watch this space for dates…

Tuesday takes us to Sawbridgeworth, the following information from Brian;

‘Try a different angle’ meet in Bell Street car park at 7.45. Bring step ladders or something to lay on to try and get up high or down low.

If the threatened thunder storms do appear check the Facebook page/emails for alternative arrangements. (ie which pub we will meet in).

In other news, this is you last week to get snapping for ‘photo of the month’ who’s image will be in Photosound this month?

Have a great week.

Weekly update 2013-07-15

Ema EvansHi everyone,

Hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine. I photographed my first wedding on Saturday which was nerve wracking to say the least! Not easy in this heat but I think the bride will be happy.

Anyway, not much to report this week, two main things;

Firstly Tuesday night, we left a space in the summer programme to repeat anything that had been rained off. Amazingly that hasn’t happened this year, so we have last minute plan: Jonathon has kindly invited us over to his place in Much Hadham and has a few interesting spots to show us. He is going to let us photograph his wood shed and the stream. Then he has a great location for sunsets near the bluebell woods.

If we can meet at Jonathon’s at 7.45. The address is;

Little Rustics
Widford Road
Much Hadham
SG10 6AT

Many thanks Jonathon.

Secondly I have a day trip in the diary for this Saturday (20th). I was thinking of a day out in Cambridge. Let me know if you are interested in coming and I can let you all know the details. We will probably meet at the bus stop at the Trumpington park and ride, but we can car share too from bishops stortford.

Don’t forget to add your pics to the Flickr/Facebook page to be considered for photo of the month.

See you all soon

Emma’s Update 2013-06-03

Emma EvansHi Everyone,

Well my weekly update comes to you a day later than usual -yeah yeah I know I’m slacking- but I’ve had a terrible throat and ear infection in both my ears…so I’ve had trouble talking which as you all know is just HORRIBLE for me.

Anyway, the weekly update:

So tomorrow night (Tuesday) is a photo walk, and dare I say, quick drink in the local pub at Hatfield Heath.  Lets hope it stays lovely and sunny, the forecast so far is looking good. See you all there, by the church on the Heath.

Saturday is the first weekend photo outing of the summer.  So the details:

We will meet at Stortford station at 9.30am. We will head straight to the V & A museum for a little look around the history of photography exhibition.

After a Coffee, we can have half an hour around Kensington for some architecture photography; my Dad (a veritable London cabbie) has given me a little route which takes in the Spy Mansions, the Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial.

We will then hot foot it over to Portebello market for a spot of lunch and some people photography, the market is a riot of colour and there are always interesting people to see and obviously photograph.

It won’t be a late one, so we will catch an early afternoon train home.

There’s a committee meeting on Wednesday for the members of the committee, it will be held at Sandy’s house.

Please let me know if you would like to join us on the London walk, the more the merrier.

Have a lovely week if I don’t see you.

Em’s xxx
